Weather report: Strong Thunderstorms and mid-70’s, rain, rain, and more rain
It has rained all day today off and on. I was woken up this morning by another thunderstorm, no sirens this time, just a great deal of thunder. Really hard thunder, you know how hard I sleep and it woke me up. Got up and piddled around in my room trying to decide if I was going to face the rain or stay in my room. Well, I got a shower and shaved, brushed my teeth and headed out into the cold rain. Started out toward civilization, exit 10 off I-185 and stepped out of my room, walked around the corner toward the stairwell, and caution tape was everywhere. We could not us the stairwell near us and had to go around. The room’s five doors down had the ceiling collapse and the stairwell was full or draining water. No one was hurt they had the rooms blocked off for reconstruction, thank the Lord for that! However, it made of a longer walk to the car, not a good start to the day. We do have a covered area until we hit the street then a mad dash to the car to stay a little dry. I left my jacket in the trunk of the car and had to get it out to stay dry for the rest of the day. I then proceeded to Moe’s and had a Joey combo with a side of queso and a sweet tea. Finished there and started for the Infantry Museum. Was tempted by the Hot and Now light at Krispy Kreme shop, but continued on my way. Made it to the Infantry Museum and the place is being reworked and not scheduled to open the main part until June 2009. Colin Powell (General Retired) is going to open the Museum along with many other distinguished guests. They did have the OCS and Ranger memorials open upstairs. They have a nice restaurant and IMAX theater in building. The Infantry Association has an office upstairs, I stopped in and talked with them for a little while and order a new neck ribbon for the Order of Saint Maurice medal I received from them. Thought it would be a good time to do that now instead of when I am struggling to find one in the future. They have not set-up the viewing area of the names of the recipients for the medal yet. On the way back to my room I saw three deer eating grass on the side of the road. It was nice to see some animals here.
I am back in my room now and set photos of the tornado that came through to Amanda. I will see what she thinks about it later. We have a muster recall formation at 1800 hrs and will know more of what to expect for tomorrow and the rest of the week hopefully.
1800 formation was another cluster. We were disorganized and had a few holdovers join us today in the formation. Several other people showed up that were not here to process off leave and they allowed them to join the class. We were told that APFT formation was at 0400 hrs in the morning and to not be late. That is super early! We did not get any additional information on training. Here we are again with a formation time and no other information at all. The instructor went over the instructions for the APFT today before we left and the demonstration portion as well. Hopefully, we will fall in, stretch out, and complete the test early.
Went to eat at the Olive Garden with SFC Kirvin and I ate spaghetti and meatballs, water with lemon, and bread. I skipped out on the salad or soup option. Supper was good and well need for the carb’s tomorrow. Gotta get some sleep now.
