Day: April 9, 2009 Thursday
Weather report: mid-60’s partly cloudy
Today I left Greenville, SC around 1750 hrs and arrived at Fort Benning, GA around 2215 hrs. I reported into the control desk at BLDG 399 at Olson Hall. The place seems to be fairly well kept and the rooms are pretty nice to be military accommodations, it bets sleeping in the barracks with 39 other men. The only real bad part is I am on the third floor and have to go up and down steps for three weeks. Wish I was home getting ready to get in my bed or fall asleep on the couch like I normally do watching the news or some other T.V. series. It is way to quiet without my boys chasing each other and arguing about one thing or another, and I miss the sounds of Mary-Cohen cooing and ahhing when someone pays her attention. I miss the smell of Amanda and listing to her tell, the stories of the adventures of the two pirates and the little ballerina.
Footnote: after I signed into my room I went down to the Airborne School, the Might 250 foot tower is no joke. There are three of them and they overlook everything. They are even spookier looking in the night with the blinking aircraft warning lights atop the massive iron structures. There long fingerlike arms extend out over the training area and looks like it is going to reach down and pick you up. The field where training is going to be conducted looks just like all the photos and nothing really special about that. Guess I will find out more in the morning. Going to try and get a good nights rest.
